Ever since the controversial yet striking and capable L663 Defender had launched its following and tuning base has been growing fast. Equally as customisable as the older generation but with all the comforts you would come to expect from a new Land Rover, this car is ready for the SR performance treatment and that is exactly what we have done.
Our first goal was to complete a full turbo back exhaust system fabricated in house with exceptional quality using 303 stainless and purge welded for industry leading finishes and flow. Our systems are first designed in house in CAD to ensure perfect fitment every time and all pipe work is bent on our programable automated pipe bender for absolute accuracy when creating the systems.
Step 1 starts with 3D scans to enable us to map the underside of each model and understand individual model design constraints. Once this is scanned we can then map the original components, this gives us original flange and mounting points so that sections of new systems are able to be coupled with the vehicles originals which mean sections can be swapped bit by bit if you wish.
Step 2 is to design the system and overlay it over the underside chassis map, giving us a clear idea of space and possible fitment issues before fabricating. This saves us significant development time, cost and materials while enabling us to tailor designs to the individual customers needs.
Once designed all systems are then programmed onto the automatic tube bender in order to create the sections needed to be welded, 3D printed jigs are then used to align the sections for precise welding and accuracy. With purge welding of all systems we insure the highest quality is maintained on all of our SR exhausts in order to be industry leading, from stainless fixings to high quality exhaust finishers our systems are in keeping with the prestige of the brand.
Our system starts with a full GPF delete and 300 cell Gessi sports cat/ down pipe with matching size flexi replacement. This then flows into an un silenced centre section (where a resonator previously existed) then onto our twin exit sports back box (This can then either have a duel or quad exit tail pipe finisher to your preference).
In order to help breathing our tuning packages are aided by Pipercross foam element filters in the original systems, these direct replacement filters are newly developed and are a lifetime fitment requiring a clean and re-oil on service intervals. Increased flow enables us to pull in more air, couple this with our SR map to add fuelling and increase combustion – therefore adding BHP as a byproduct.
Each package has been designed to be fitted in separate steps or all together if required, this progressively adds performance on each step as well as a nice low end burble to the car giving more of a statement in everyday driving.
Our SR Custom remap is tailored to the P400 model and works along aside the modifications to increase the power levels in every gear across the rev range, coupled with the hybrid motor assist enables continuous torque to be applied to the car which gives unparalleled throttle response and power delivery for towing etc. In this particular case our stage 3 package has added 50bhp and 100NM to the petrol engine due to opening up the flow of the exhaust system and the evacuation of the gases more efficiently.
This has taken the hybrid P400 car to 448BHP and 740NM with the hybrid assist motor.
